Khao lak beach restaurants

Staying at the Meridien in early December. Does anyone know if there are beach restaurants in the immediate vicinity? I hear the Meridien restaurants are very expensive?

I am surprised no one answered your question yet - so I will!

There is a small Thai restaurant that gets good reviews just about 80 meters or so to the left as you walk out of the LeMeridien facing the sea (I think it is west) - but just walk out to the beach and turn left. Easy to see. Also, another few hundred meters past that - past the Similana and almost to the Sarojin are several small Thai restaurants that people also seem to like.

Photos of the restaurants next to the Sarojin and info about other restaurants in the Khao Lak area are at:

Personally, I also like the restaurant at the Similana - GREAT view as it is built up in a tree house style up on the side of a bluff.

People who stay at the LeMeridien so report that you can get a bit stranded if you go past the rocky outcroppings at the Similana - at low tide and return at high tide. I might be wrong, but others have reported that you can get back - but you will need to traverse the rocks - or do some wading . . . Hopefully others will tell you about that!

Sorry,

Missed your post. Ted%26#39;s given details of the local beach restaurants. All very basis but great food and VERY cheap!

The restaurants at Le Meridien are expensive compared to the beach restaurants and the bigger choice in Khao Lak Town (a 200 thb per person return trip and 20 minutes away ny hotel shuttle) but are no more than what you expect for a 5* resort and are better furnished. A starter in the hotel Thai restaurant is about 150thb (60 in a local), main course about 300 (80-100 in local). Beer is also more expensive and wine much more expensive. A steak in Hotel restaurant about 650thb, 375 nin Viking in Khao Lak.
