Mandarin Oriental

Please can anybody tell me if they have visited the restaurant at this hotel called Le Grand Lanna and what are the prices like? Is it worth going there?

Thanks.

Mandarin Oriental

I have eaten there only once and it is a beautiful place.

It is very dear by local standards, but cheap by 5 star hotel standards. But it is 5 star hotel design indeed!

They hired the best chiefs in Chiang mai in most all cusines when they opened so the food is good. If you want decor it is a wonderful place to dine!

If you want amazing authentic Thai food it is not it is only good. But great food and great decor do not go hand in hand in Chiang mai. The best food here isnot in western managed hotels but in small shops and in private homes as is where it was created it is not like Royal Chinese Cusine but village created with truly fresh home grown spices and just picked herbs from the family garden.

I’ve eaten at Le Grand Lanna several times. A good dinner for two is about 2000 THB net not including any alcoholic beverages. The setting above gardens and ponds is beautiful if you dare choosing an outside table (mosquitoes – repellent provided). The Thai dancing show is great but very short – by no means one hour as stated in the program, rather like 20 minutes.

Food and service are very good but not exceptional.

Le Grand Lanna is popular with local residents so bookings are essential for weekends. Unfortunately, the restaurant is also popular with noisy tour groups, so it’s not really suitable for a “special evening”.
