10 hours to kill in Bangkok - what shall we do?

We are landing in Bangkok on 23rd December at 6.10am and we are then leaving on a flight to Hanoi at 6pm 5.50pm. We chose to have the longer overlay so we can stretch our legs and get a taste for Thailand!

We have not got to worry about our luggage as we are flying with the same carrier and our luggage will be transported straight onto the next flight.

We would like to go on the sky-train, just because it sounds cool and we have been told that the golden budda is a must (not sure if it is called that though!) We don%26#39;t want anything too regimented but suggestions would be great.

Should we get a cab from the airport? to where?? is it easy to get around Bangkok? how long will it take us to get back to the airport? Loads of questions sorry!!

Air side of Bangkok airport has a desk for long transit passangers to experience Bangkok.

If you use this facility you will get an organised tour either on your own or with a group if there is enough.

Most places dont open till 10am for shopping. tho many tourist spots are 9am.

If you do not use this facility and go it alone I think you will have to pay the 500 baht airport tax on your return and must be paid in Thai Baht. Again check with the airline desk.

You say that your luggage will be delt with. Have you been told this by the airline?

Time to the airport is 30-60 minutes depending where you go. again ask the transit/tour desk time you should be back.

Thats great, thanks. I think that we want to try and do it alone rather than with an organised tour. That way we can do what we want when we want and if we start to flake we can find a bar somewhere and chill for a couple of hours.

We have our Baht to pay the tax when we come back, must remember not to spend it all in Bangkok!

Are we better off getting a cab, train bus into town? Where would you think we are best off starting or where is the furthest point so we can use the early hour to get to the farthest place.

All recommendations needed!

Hi Nikola

If you want to go to the %26#39;Golden Buddha%26#39;, you can get a cab and tell the driver that you want to go to %26#39;Wat Trimitre%26#39; which is located near Hua Lumphone train station.

Or, you can take a bus at the airport to get to the Victory Monument and then take a sky train to Asoke station and then get a subway train to Hua Lumpong station. This would be a long way but the chepest way.

Good luck

Celine

Thats great Celine, thank you. If we took the bus, sky train %26amp; train option how long would it take to get to the Golden Budda? I have no idea how far things are from each other or how long it will take.

Thanks again

Nikola

It will take around 2 hours which not including waiting time for each bus and train.

Good luck

Celine

Bugger, by the time we get there it%26#39;ll be time to come back!!
