Whats the cheapest way to call home? I am taking my contract mobile phone with me but someone said that you would get an extra bill for the calls on returning home. I will probably need to call home every other day to check that one son is keeping an eye on everything and not having wild parties. Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks
Julie
Calling home to UK
While finace lived in China for 8 months we used Talk Loop. 2 cents min to call from US to china. Not sure if this works in Thailand or UK, but you check into it.
Calling home to UKjulie,
last time we were in thailand we called home every day.we purchased a phone card for about 拢10 (i think)
it lasted the duration of the fortnight.i presume it will be a similar set up in phuket.we also called from my mobile at the beginning which obviously worked out more expensive.check with your service provider how much a minute it will be from thailand if you do call home its usually about 拢1 or so. the other option i have read on here is to buy a pay as you go sim card in phuket and use it instead of your sim card, that way you dont pay the international roaming charges just the call to the uk.(im not sure about that one yet)

Phone card would be your best bet.
Your mobile will probably be locked so you will not be able to put in local sim card. If you have an old mobile hanging around that is unlocked take that and buy 1-2-3 sim card. Think I have heard recently that new mobiles are damaged if you try to unlock them.
Any calls you make with Uk mobile will be extremely expensive and if anyone calls you both phones will be charged. Use texts if possible.
Buy a Lenso International Phone Card in 7/11 / Family Mart. 300baht (gives you 320baht to use) and use it in the Yellow International phones you see outside most 7/11s. Only costs 7baht a minute to phone UK.
Don%26#39;t go in the Internet shops and make International calls...they%26#39;ll charge you 15 a minute.
