Krabi - Help

Hi I am looking to go to Krabi in March but I dont know where to stay, I have been to Phuket - Karon and Koh Samui - Chaweng, and loved both places.

Is Ao Nang the place to stay? I would like options to have resturants and bars close by within walking distance, the option to stay in a quiet resort, and also somewhere where I can do some sightseeing.

Looking at some resorts in my price range Krabi Heritage Village, has anyone stayed here? If so what is it like?

Any information on Krabi, and hotels would be much appreciated.

thanks

Krabi - Help

Hi I was just in krabi last week

It is much more laid back than Phuket and Koh Samuii

Lots of back packers and familys a younger more adventureous

crowd.

with lots more to do/ I stayed at tipi resort in Ao Nang could walk every where easily. then took long tail boats to islands for swimming and snorkling lots of tours to do inland and you have to go to Railay for rock climbing a must.

I like Krabi better than Phuket

Krabi - Help

Hi Sawadeeka,

I just googled tipi resort in Ao Nang without any luck.

Any help would be appreciated

Nicky

Hiya Claire,we had a look round the Heritage a couple of years ago.It was clean, with a spacious reception area.Didn%26#39;t ask to see a room, although they look o.k. on photo%26#39;s i%26#39;ve seen.My only concern, was the pool area, was smaller than it looked on brochure photos, and was enclosed by a wall, that was next to the road.I would think it would be quite hot round there,as you wouldn%26#39;t bet much breeze...didn%26#39;t appeal to us i%26#39;m afraid.

We were staying at the Ao Nang Villa which is more or less next door. The large pool area here is beautiful, and looks right on to the limestone cliff..stunning.There is also a smaller pool, beach front, that had a swim up bar.The rooms were nice, and staff good.It%26#39;s only slightly dearer in cost,so personally, would stay there again.

Have a look at www.sawadee.com,and will help if i can with any futher questions.

Hi Nicenicky,i think Sawadeeka may mean Tipa resort..?

try www.sawadee.com

Tiffin,

thanks for your reply.

Actually, if you don%26#39;t mind I%26#39;d like to ask you a few questions, seeing as you%26#39;re a regular to Krabi.

We were thinking of staying on Railey but now I%26#39;m thinking maybe Ao Nang may be better with longboat trips out to Railey instead.

We are a family of four (teenage boys) and have six nights in Krabi.

Can you tell me the difference between the rooms at Ao Nang Villa(standard, superior, deluxe) - would standard be okay (view, size, fittings etc)?

What I would really like are low rise cottages in a smallish resort beachfront - am I asking too much?

That%26#39;s why I was thinking Railey first at the Sunrise Tropical.

Any ideas to research would be great.

Thanks Tiffin,

Nicky

Tiffin,

Thank you very much for your reply, from what you have said about the small pool, which too be honest I did think it looked rather small, I think I will look at somewhere else. The other place you have mentioned seems fine, so I will see if Travelmood who I will probably book through can offer other hotels for me.

Who did you book through by the way?

Any more info on Krabi would be much appreciated, tours, sightseeing etc......I heard there are warm pools up at the waterfalls, have you been there?

Thank you so much

Claire

Hello Yes it is the Tipa resort I am sorry my typeing and spelling skills leave a lot to be desired. but I am getting better.

Has any one done the Tiger cave Wat where you can walk 1237 steps to the top for view. My girlfriend didn%26#39;t want to walk so didn%26#39;t go.

did I miss a good view?

Hiya Nicky, will say that the Sunrise tropical looked nice, when we walked past it.Have looked on the website, and the rooms look rather nice.I haven%26#39;t stayed there so can%26#39;t comment on the way of the staff/service.

Ao Nang villa standard rooms are in a block, more towards the beachfront, but are smaller than the superior ones.We liked our room, which was 3207(sup),as it overlooked the larger pool, and the beautiful scenery.Rooms 3207 to 3212 face the cliff directly (are above reception). There is a new block, that backed on to the cliff, built in september 04,but i don%26#39;t know which catagory they are.

Rooms are quite large,nice bathrooms,and a balcony.

The deluxe rooms i would say would be about the same size, but they have a wooden decking area, and steps that access the pool area, saves walking down the open steps at the side of each block, but remember saying to hubby, that if you sat on the deck on an evening you would be eaten alive.

Just a thought would it be a hassle for you to do 3nts raiey,3 nights Ao Nang.

I think if you have teanage sons,6 night%26#39;s may be too long for them at Sunrise, but they could do something exciting like rock climbing.

Claire,we booked through Tradewinds, got a decent deal, but have seen the resort in a few brochures.(Not thomas cook.)...and haven%26#39;t yet done the waterfalls,so i%26#39;m no help there.

I don%26#39;t know what the view is like Sawadeeka,as haven%26#39;t yet managed to badger hubby into trekking up there : )

Hope this helps guys.

Hi Tiffin,

you%26#39;re a treasure. Thanks for all the information.

I did actually think about 3 + 3 nights. It does seem to be the smart thing to do, then we get to check out two different resorts in different areas.

We%26#39;ve also got 3 nights at Bang Tao bay when we first arrive and then 8 nights in Phuket after Krabi so it may be too much unpacking and packing. I%26#39;ll have to ask the rest of family what they reckon.

Will let you know what we end up with

Nicky
