Hey,
My wife and I are planning a two week trip to Thailand in December. We are flying into Bangkok then heading up to Chiang Mai and then heading to the beach before we go back home. All along we planned on hitting Krabi/Phi Phi Islands, but I%26#39;ve been reading about Phu Quoc in Vietnam and it sounds really cool.
Anybody been to both Krabi/Phi Phi and Ho Chi Minh/Phu Quoc and care to compare/contrast them?
From what I%26#39;ve seen, it seems that Krabi/Phi Phi is more beautiful but Phu Quoc would be more adventurous and unspoiled by tourists. Any thoughts? How much better is the scenery at Krabi/Phi Phi than Phu Quoc?
Thanks.

Krabi or Phu Quoc
I haven%26#39;t been to Krabi for almost 10 years, and visited Phu Quoc about three years ago. If you want a vacation, go to Krabi. Yes, there are few foreign tourists in Phu Quoc, but it isn%26#39;t nearly as beautiful as Krabi (it%26#39;s pretty flat, and Krabi has beautiful karst peaks along the shore, a la Guilin or Halong bay), and the accomodations aren%26#39;t as nice. I%26#39;m not sure what the VN Airlines flights are like now, but there used to only be one flight to Phu Quoc, which left HCMC at something like 6:30 AM. Two weeks is a short trip going all the way to Asia - I wouldn%26#39;t waste time flying going from Bangkok all the way to HCMC, and then have to catch a flight to Phu Quoc, when you can fly direct to Phuket from Chiang Mai, maybe even to Krabi airport.
The tourist industry in Krabi Province, while only Phi Phi was affected, was devastated by the tsunami, so they could really use your tourist dollars.
Bon Voyage!
Krabi or Phu Quoc
Roman, I just returned from Phu Quoc and in 2004 I was at Railay, Thailand.
Very different spots. Vietnam much cheaper, Phu Quoc now has 3-4 flights daily from HCMC. I stayed at the Tropicana Resort and would and am going back this coming February. It is a quiet island, you can rent motorbikes it is not a flat island but hilly in the central region. Not as beautiful as Railay..........but there are not many spots more beautiful than Railay !
So it depends on what you are looking for and how much money to spend. I found Vietnam to be very friendly and interesting. The food is great at both places.
Ask more questions if you wish.
