I am coming to Thailand in March/April next year. We are thinking of spending a few nights in Khao Lak, in particular Le Meridien. However we have a coule of questions that we dont think have previously been asked/answered on the forum.
How expensive are the meals at the hotel? A lot of reviews say they are very dear but give no indication of the prices.
Whats the beach like? Is it white powdery sand and turquoise water like phi phi?
Is there good snorkelling close by?
Whats the difference between delux and delux pool? (apart from the £6 price difference!!)
Sorry for all the questions!!
Thanks
Matt
LeMeridien Questions
The restaurants at Le Meridien are expensive compared to the beach restaurants and the bigger choice in Khao Lak Town (a 200 thb per person return trip and 20 minutes away by hotel shuttle) but are no more than what you expect for a 5* resort and are better furnished. A starter in the hotel Thai restaurant is about 150thb (60 in a local), main course about 300 (80-100 in local). Beer is also more expensive and wine much more expensive. A steak in Hotel restaurant about 650thb, 375 in Viking in Khao Lak.
Beach is fabulous. Long time since I was at Phi Phi, but yes, white powdery sand and turquoise, though not clear because of tide movement, water. Have a look at pics here:

There is some snorkeling from various beaches in Khao Lak and you can snorkel from the one at Le Meridien but not much to see. Best snorkeling/diving is a day trip to Similan Islands.
Deluxe Pool, which we stayed in last April, is ground floor with a small furnished patio leading through the beautiful foliage to the second pool which in Le Spa complex. They are not as the name implies direct access to the pool. As the foliage is quite tall they can be regarded by some as a bit gloomy. We didn%26#39;t find them so.
The ';ordinary'; (which are by no means ordinary) Deluxe are 1st and 2nd floor of the 3 storey block which forms a U shape around the the Le Spa Pool. The best ones and which we are returning to next March/April in preference to Pool Access are top floor sea-facing, if like us you like to sip your G%26amp;T/beer/both while watching the fabulous sunsets. These rooms are identically and excellently furnished and equipped to Pool Access, except the latter have a DVD player (which hotel will provide if you really need one anyway) and are slightly smaller, having a balcony rather than a patio.
Might see you there!
Post any more questions and I or someone else will try to answer.
See www.mykhaolak.de main site and forum - German but plenty of photos and links for Le Meridien and Khao Lak. Also have a look at http://khaolaklovers.com/forum/index.php for more info on Khao Lak as well as main site www.khaolaklovers.com
