Hello!
We will be flying into Bangkok from Phnom Pehn around 10 am on new years day and flying out of Bangkok to Phuket around 4 pm with Air Asia both flights. I have a few questions on what we can do during this time:
1. I estimate that if we want to have lunch downtown, we have to allow for 30 minutes at customs/luggage claim, 45 minutes each way to downtown, and would need to be back at airport 2 hours before departure. That leaves us with only 2 hours to spend downtown. Does this sound about right? Do you think 2 hours before departure is enough at such a busy time?
2. If I were to choose any restaurant in all of Bangkok to have lunch at, which one do you recommend? Prefer authentic thai food, no money limits.
3. Are there any great restaurants or sights to see closer to the airport that would take up less time travelling to? Any great restaurants serving authentic thai food at the airport?
4. Are we better off storing our luggage at the airport and checking in again when we return or check ing our bags for our 4 pm flight immediately when we arrive in the morning?
Hopefully these questions are already answered somewhere in another post...newbie!!!
Thanks All!!
6 Hour Layover at New Airport - What To Do?As no one has come up with specific info here are my thoughts.
You will most certainly not get your bags checked through so you will have to collect them and pass through customs.
I have never used Air Asia so do not know their check in policy or their flight schedule.
You should check with the airline on their checkin policy ie time before flight etc. and their schedule.
You will take 35 - 55 minutes to clear the airport if you have to collect your luggage. Check in time for domestic flights is now still being requested as 2 hours.
Taxi to and from downtown can take 45 - 60 minutes sometimes lucky and only 30 but no guarantee. Traffic in Bangkok is heavey all day.
You may like to think about using one of the ';airport'; hotels for your meal they will certainly serve authentic thai food. the closest is only a few minutes ride and you wont be rushed.
Enjoy
6 Hour Layover at New Airport - What To Do?air asia is notorious for being late.
they are a no assigned seat airline first come first served for seating
they only open for check in 2 hr before flight so you would have to stash your bags somewhere while you go downtown. I would see how much time you have after clearing customs then talk to tour desk at airport they may have ideas for quick lunch and other things to do. good luck
