I%26#39;ve read in the Phuket Gazette, that the stalls of the beach vendors will move to another place near the Laguna Beach Resort and that the restaurants are too near at the sea?
It%26#39;s not allowed anymore to have a restaurant on the beach in the future, since the tsunami is a real danger???
It would be very sad, if you couldn%26#39;t seat anymore on the beach and have a nice candlelightdinner and watch the beautiful sea.
Thanks in advance for any feedback folks

No beach restaurants anymore on Bang Tao beach in the future
The story in the Phuket Gazette is not really clear - but here is the real situation and it has nothing to do with tsuanmis.
There are about 14 vendors that have (for years) had shanty type shacks set right on the grounds of the Laguna Beach Resort. They are encroaching right onto the property of the LBR and completely block the view of the beach and even to some degree block beach access.
There are the ONLY vendors that are going to be ';moved';. Now . . . this is Thailand and you can%26#39;t just go get the police and have them removed. ';Community action'; here sometimes involves blocking roads and keeping customers away from your hotels . . . So, a compromise has to be reached - and in this case the LBR ';donated'; some land immediately to the south of their property that will be used. Stalls are now being built on that property - but all indications are that the squatters will not be completely happy with that solution is it is not as in ';in your face'; as their current situation and they quess that sales will suffer.
The vendors have encroached so much that it has become difficult to walk between the pool area and the beach front. The encroachment WAS worsened by the tsunami - which did erode a portion of beach forcing the vendors to move about three meters closer in - making what as already a bad situation into an even worse situation.
No beach restaurants anymore on Bang Tao beach in the future
I wrote the preceding note about 5AM - so I hope it is clear.
But . . . bottom line: Bang Tao%26#39;s beach restaurants will remain.
The issue was not/is not the restaurants - it is the shanty vendors encroaching on the Laguna Beach Resort%26#39;s property - blocking the sea view and - to some extent - beach access.
Now it%26#39;s clear now. Thanks for your feedback Tedkarma. It is really not nice that the stalls of the vendors are/were in front of the hotel. But I don%26#39;t unterstand why they are doing only right now something against this bad situation and not already years before?
But maybe this is Thailand, too. Right?
Nikci, who is soon on Bang Tao Beach again
Indeed, ';This is Thailand';.
The Laguna Resorts complex has had periodic difficulties with the community that borders it. Personally, I think they do a great job of dealing with difficult issues. The local community has learned that when they want something, one of the best things to do is to block the roads into the complex - and they tend to get it.
So . . . this negotiation - as with many others - takes time and patience. In this case, I believe, the local government is taking the lead - rather than the Laguna management - probably a very wise move.
Things take time here - as the legal system is a bit ';iffy'; about almost everything.
