Patong Merlin or Horizon Patong Beach Resort

Hi

My boyfriend and I are going to Phuket in February 2007 and are undecided which hotel to stay at - any help would be much appreciated.

We stayed there from 17/July 06 for 10 wonderfull days. The staff were excellent very friendly and always on hand to help and have a chat too. The reception girls were lovely, and helped out many time with booking tours such as fantasia and Simion Caberet. The room we had booked (poolside) was not available but we were upgraded to a family room which was massive for the two of us. King size bed, cooking facilities, large bath and a seperate shower. Also satelite TV and a fold out sofa bed lounge. The rooms were made up freshly each day with a flower on pillows- nice little touch I thought even though I placed in ashtray as dont smoke myself. The brekie which was included in my holiday package was excellent, western and asian treats with cereals, bacon, ommelates,etc. I brought my own vegemite though!!! The pools were clean but prehaps could have stayed open longer but I guess thats to prevent noise. There is a private laneway that leads to the beach which has 24/7 security stationed there and its own freshwater shower so you can have a rinse off after a swim in the sea. Also just to the left of this laneway is a great money exchanger- I thought had best traveller%26#39;s cheques rates!!! Lots of Tuk Tuks parked nearby as well because resort is right next to Holiday Inn. For children there is a games room with internet, DVD/TV, playstation like machines as well as some swings and stuff. There is a massage centre inside resort but I didnt go to that as there is many just outside main entrance along with a 7-11 convienience store that sells cheap water,beer,etc. My only gripes with the room was the aircond didnt stay on once you remove the keys that turn on/off all the power but it gets cool after a couple of minutes anyway.

Whoops the place I am recommending is Horizons, didnt notice I didnt write that in last post.

We are Patong Merlin fans. lauout of grounds is terrific, staff fabulous, meals devine and at end of the beach far enough away from the hustle of Bangla Road but close enough to get involved if you want to.

The quality of most accomodation in the Patong area is pretty good and you will be pleased with whichever you choose.

Hi there... have stayed at the Horizon and loved it. One thing I would change is to get a room that actually has a veranda or a balcony, our rooms were directly outside the first pool and there was nowhere to sit outside the room, which was not the best. Other than that the location is fabulous, and it is quite intimate, not too big.

I would say it is a much better location than the Patong Merlin, but cant compare the two, sorry.

We stayed at the Patong Merlin a short time ago and found it to be great! We are from Aus as well and plenty on Aussies and europeans stay there - a great atmosphere! The pools are huge, food great, staff friendly and very central location to both beach and shops... I would re visit for the great value for money... Have a great time!!! Peter

No comprisam in my opinion, Patong Merlin all the way.

3 great pools, a breakfast to die for, the loveliest staff, beautifull grounds.

I could go on.

To be fair I have never stayed at the Horizon but had friends stay there one year when we were at the Merlin and it is a nice hotel but not the standard of the Patong Merlin.

Where ever you choose, you will have a ball...Cheers.

the best place to stay is the horizon it is the best we had 10 days there and going again in three months.

We have booked the Horizon for the end of April. previously have stayed at the Merlin. This time the availability of a family room was one of the deciding factors, as was price, as well as location.

There are no reviews in the hotel section. The other Horizon is there.

I know lots of Australians stay there. I have heard both good and bad reports, so lets get some reviews happening to help people make informed choices.
