Ted , I haven%26#39;t even got to Phuket yet and am already regretting we are not staying longer than the planned five days , i hope to change my flight and stay two days longer, we are booked in to the Cape panwa but am thinking the extra two nights further north , do you know of the Gold Digger resort in Nai yang? dont want to pay the price for the marriott even if it has a good write up , way over my budget !! or any other small places in the area ? many thanks

The Golddigger resort is okay - but it is in kind of a strange location - and a fair walk to the beach. You might find yourself happier at somewhere like the Naithonburi on Naithon Beach. It is not a huge resort - but not small either - but it is right across a quiet street from an excellent and less well-known beach.

Also - take a look at places like Andaman Bang Tao Bay Resort - maybe only 15 bungalows facing right on Bang Tao Beach.

Or . . . if you don%26#39;t mind a short walk to the beach the Tonsai Retreat off Bang Tao Beach is a bit unusual. New brand name I think is - Anchan Resort and Spa. Very small resort.

Or, for something more quite special - and still smallish - the ManaThai in Surin Beach.

Just my bias - I like to be within a minute or two of the beach!
