Restaurants near the Marriott

My husband and I will be Phuket staying at the Marriott for our anniversaury and was wondering if someone had any recommendations for us.

I know the Marriott is out of the way and we will not have a car, so I will have to rely on either hotel shuttle or cab.

Thank you

The Yacht Haven has a nice restaurant with a pleasant view of the bay and marina - and good food. About ten minutes from the Marriott. Great for an evening meal - go a bit before sunset.

We are staying at the Marriott at the moment and went to the Haven last night. It is a great dining experience but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it as the ultimate anniversary dinner place but do go there sometime during your stay. The food here at the Marriott out is very good and they will accommodate any request for special dining. For example they will provide a private dining experience on the beach where you can watch the sunset and then dine by candlelight with a soft ocean breeze.

For our trip over to the Haven we asked the concierge to arrange a taxi for us. Round trip was 500bht; the driver took us over there at 6 just before dusk and came back for us at 7:30 which was just about right. You drive through several villages prior to arriving at the restaurant and there are speed bumps so it acutally took us more like 20 minutes to get there. When we arrived it was a little disconcerting as there is no parking lot just a set of stairs at the top of the hill. Our driver walked us down the path and we saw the open air dining area at the bottom. The deck overlooks the bay and the scene is very beautiful. It faces east so the sunrise would be very nice but there is no sunset to look at. In addition to the tables there is a bar and pool table.

There were some bugs that were biting but when the staff saw our difficulties they brought out bug spray for us to use and we had no problem after that.

The food was excellent and very reasonable. The mussels served with a marinara sauce in the shell were great, the spring rolls were also good especially the spicy plum sauce they were served with, and my husband had the best sea bass dish which was served with a spinach sauce with mushrooms. I had the phad thai which was also good and our other guest had stir fried shrimp with asparagus and snap peas which was also very good.

We are going back on Friday to play pool, drink a few Singhas and have dinner. Here is their website:

The taxi driver probably didn%26#39;t know where the parking area is.

Go past the marina a bit - and past where the restaurant is. Perhaps about 100 meters from where you went in. There is a short road down and you park near the beginning of the fuel pier.

Or - if you miss - go ahead and go to the restaurant - and when you leave head towards the fuel pier and you will the parking area. It is a bit, uh . . . informal.

We ate dinner at Yacht Haven (on Ted Karma%26#39;s advice) and it was pretty good! It was already dark because it was at the end of our whole day of sightseeing/shopping with Mr. Mor, the highly recommended local driver.

Actually, Mr. Mor ended up parking at the top of the hill/back side of restaurant because when he went down the main drive, he had to back up because there was a river of muddy water cutting off the road, from the on and off rain during the day time! Good thing that Mr. Mor knew about the top of the hill parking because that river wasn%26#39;t that little!
