Phuket advice

I am planning our first trip to Thailand for april 08. Myself and hubby are staying at the Marriott in Bangkok for 4 nights. For the 10 next days is where I am undecided. We are nature lovers, mad about exotic beautiful beaches and keen snorkellers. We also like to explore inland. I have been torn between Phuket,Krabi, Koh Phangan and Koh Samet. We do not want touristy/built-up and want a true Thai experience. I discounted Phuket on the basis that I wanted somewhere less developed but having just read fantastic recent reviews on the hotel I was originally keen on,Cape Panwa, I am even more confused again. Anyones experiences much appreciated as it is a bit of a minefield with so many different places to choose from. Thanks!

Hi Glampuss, Have a look around the Rawai area. CJ

Phuket advice

Krabi is the least built up right now but growing fast

you can take long tail boat to island%26#39;s or go to railey for rock climbing

to get a true Thai experience you would have to go north and inland away from ocean. don%26#39;t get me wrong I love the beaches and all of thailand and I always have a great time but it is now so built up for tourist%26#39;s you never get to see the thai people only other tourist and the thai%26#39;s catering to them.

Sawadeeka have you ever been to Koh Lanta? This looks a more traditional island(saw a programme on it the other day). I am interested in the Layana resort.

Chuckyjellie where is the Rawai area?

never been to Koh lanta but have heard they have some of the best snorkling.

Really? Thats fired me up, great snorkelling is a huge plus for us

Now I am fired up about going back and snorkling

I should have went there last week while I was in Krabi..

check out this site www.lantainfo.com

they had some great pics of snorkling.

Hi glampuss

You may want to make a post to the attention of ';SanClemente'; on this forum. Duncan %26amp; Kate stayed at the Evason Resort in the Rawai area just down the road from my home last year. This year they wanted a bit more culture, a nice beach with snorkeling and a more laid back away from the touristy atmoushere. They stayed for 2 weeks at the Sabana Resort on Nai Harn Beach. The Le Meridian Royal Yacht Club is next door and a lot more upmarket but these are the only places on a beach the same size as Kata.

Megumi and I have lived just up the road for 11 years and compared to Patong you will feel like you are on a different planet. I hope this will help with your travel planning and regards from Phuket.

Also you could have a look at Limestone Lake tours website - they operate in Khao Sok area (inland).
