2-3 days outside Bangkok

We are flying from Phuket to Bangkok on December 26th. We are staying in Bangkok for New Years Eve. Since we have covered the beach and the nightlife of Thailand, we want to explore the interior. Any suggestions on what is a ';must see';? (within 2-4 hours of Bangkok with easy transportation from the airport). We really love nature, history, and culture and are open to ideas. 2-3 days outside Bangkok

For what you are looking for Kanchanaburi or Ayuthaya or both would probably suit you. There are plenty of places within central and North east Thailand but those are close. Ayuthaya for ancient Thai history, Kanchanaburi more for nature and scenery plus WWII history. if it%26#39;s your first trip those 2 options might be of interest.

yes Kanchanaburi - interesting ww2 history, nice river trips, and a cheap and relaxing place to stay.
