To Eggchaser or anyone: Driving from Phuket to Krabi

Hi everyone, we%26#39;ll be driving from Phuket to Krabi in a week%26#39;s time (yay!). Would appreciate if you could point out the general direction as well as where to stop or what to see along the way. How long is the journey and how much should we budget for gas? Once in Ao Nang, we%26#39;ll have to return the car at Ao Nang Villa. Is the resort easy to locate? Thanks!!!

P.s: I%26#39;ll be renting an automatic sedan from Budget for 1590baht a day, including VAT and insurance. Is this price acceptable? There are smaller rental companies which offer cheaper cars but we are concerned about its insurance coverage or the lack of it...

To Eggchaser or anyone: Driving from Phuket to Krabi

Driving from Phuket to Krabi is easy and well sign-posted. Basically bear right when you are leaving the island, head for Phang Nga (where you might want to take a longtail boat trip around the Bay, including James Bond Island, and turn right to Krabi. VERY straightforward on good roads. It would take about 2 1/2 hours with only rest breaks. Gas is very cheap. You%26#39;ll use less than half a tank.

We hired a Toyota Vios Aouto last April from Budget at 1450thb a day. Next year March we are hiring same vehicle from Airport Car Rent at Phuket Airport for 650 thb a day for 21 days (1100 thb for upto 7 days) incusive with 10000thb excess. This company was recommended a local friend who used them.

Can%26#39;t help about o Nang Villa but with maps supplied I%26#39;m sure it will be easy to locate.

I did this route a month ago.

i took Mr. Mor who is very recommended on the phuket forums.

2500thb, from the hotel in phuket, to the reception area of the Central Krabi Bay resort in ao-nang.

so, taking a car + gas, you actually not saving that much.

so why bother ?

the drive was 2:45 hours , non stop. so if you take stops, it will be longer.

The roards are basically signed, but for example, when our driver turned right from the main road into the road into ao-nang - i didn%26#39;t see any clear signs pointing into that road !

and dont forget that you have to drive on the left side...

again, not worth it, in my opinion.

In Singapore, like UK, and Thailand you drive on the left - hence my comment to dys that it%26#39;s easy! :))

Ao Nang Villa is easy to locate. It is at the south end of the beach road, which, when driving from Krabi town direction is basically a u shape. If you turn left on the bend in the road, away from the beach,Ao Nang villa is on the right, and it has a purple and white sign, you can%26#39;t miss it.

If you have a map, which i%26#39;m sure you will if driving yourself, from Phuket, you will see the way the road is,along the beach side,in Ao Nang center.

If you haven%26#39;t done the day trip down to James Bond Island then leave a little extra time and stop on the way. You%26#39;ll see the signs, about 30 minutes after crossing the brigde from Phuket. That aside, there%26#39;s a lovely Buddha on the side on the road about 5 minutes after you pass Phang Nga. (The Krabi turning is just before you reach Phang Nga Town). If driven non-stop it%26#39;s about 2.5 hours and very easy and Ao Nang Villa is known by everyone once you arrive into Ao Nang. Have a great drive.

Thanks everyone, for the really useful info!

1 more question, how long will the James Bond island tour (by longtail boat) take?

Arandora, I posed a question to you in the Phuket forum (Topic: ';Rent A Car';) earlier without having seen your reply here. Does Airport Rental have a website?
