Krabi or Ko Samui

My husband and I are going to Thailand for our first anniversary/honeymoon in March. I am thinking we will fly into Bangkok and stay for a few days. Any raves on the Davis or the Arun Residence?

I am having a difficult time deciding between Krabi or Koh Samui after that. We would like to stay in a bungalow type hotel with opportunities to go explore, get a massage, learn to cook, snorkel etc. Not so quite but not too busy either (we don%26#39;t mind having to walk or drive to get anywhere). We are trying to stay on a minimal budget (+- $75) a night.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Michelle

Krabi or Ko Samui

The Davis is a great hotel. You should be happy about that choice if you do stay there. As for trying to decide between Krabi and Koh Samui, do you have time to see both? They are quite different and are both worth seeing if you are coming all that way.

Krabi or Ko Samui

Hi Mabella

I would agree with triptastic - they are very different places.

Samui is more about relaxing on the beach during the day, massages, cooking classes etc if you can drag your body off the chairs, and then walking along the beach at night to one of the many restaurants that are surrounded by fairy lights in front of the hotels at Chaweng beach.

Krabi is great although days we spent around the hotel pool ( we stayed in La Playa Resort AoNang with a pool access room) and nights we wandered along the main street to restaurants. More thai than western food, but still a good variety available.

In Krabi you can do day tours out to the islands and they were cheap, close and good fun.

This year we flew from Bangkok to Krabi - stayed in Krabi for 5 nights and then had the hotel car drive us around to Patong Beach Phuket where we stayed for 14 nights. It took about 2 hours and cost about 1200 baht but a pleasant drive. You can see the scenery change from limestone cliffs to more lush rural areas and then into ';hotel and resort central'; of Patong !!

You can also fly from Phuket to Samui ( and vice versa) without going back to Bangkok and then you get to see three places !!

Hope this helps - enjoy your trip !

The Davis Bangkok was a wonderful hotel far better than Pathumwan Princess which is in the same price range.

If you do not want too bust or too quiet I am not sure Chaweng beach in Koh Samui is for you maybe you would prefer Lamai Beach.

In Krabi I would not look to stay in Krabi Town. In the Krabi Pronvince you have a range of choices with Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Railey Beach and Ao Nang Beach. I think Ao Nang is better gearded for what you are looking for as the others are much smaller and more remote destinations.

For excellent rates in these areas check out morethailand.com, sawadee.com, asiarooms.com and hotelthailand.com at different times others have better rates but far cheaper than any other sites I have found.
