How much is it to hire a scooter, in baht please, for a day in Phuket and is a licence required
Scooter hire
maximum 200bht a day less for a longer period maybye
rent one from the hotel not the street boys ,as the street boys may want your passport
any damage YOU have to pay if you have a accident involving a thai your in deep poo
you need an international d/l obtainable from your motoring organization , and wear a helmet(provided or 300bht fine )make sure your trav ins covers hospital treatment too
Scooter hire
how do i get one of those licences
you can get one from a motoring organization in your country ozzie, you know-- a break down organization that gets you home if you are a member
For the british reading this thread, International Driving Licences can be bought from MAJOR post offices, sorry, don%26#39;t know about oz. Many rental places are more interested in your passport than a driving licence....under NO cicumstances leave your passport with them as collateral...it just may be kept hostage for any damage that mysteriously appears (which you never noticed beforehand) Check the car/motorcycle/scooter out and bring any damage to their attention BEFORE you leave the premises!
good advice falkirk thats why i usually try to find a hotel that has a few bikes to rent out, they would be more friendly to you !(hopefully!)--
if anything went pearshaped-
-the guys along the beach front are to be avoided, same with the guys that operate the jetskis,/ parasailing
people still do though, without thinking of the conciquenses--
Hey Andy53. Do you mean dont go on any jet ski and paragliding at all, i see the jet ski guys really checking out the things when they get back in, but what can go wrong on the paragliding when you go on, as i was going to do that this time.
But i wont go on the ski%26#39;s !
And i hear that a photocopy of your passport is good enough for the bike%26#39;s if not move on, and some times when you tell them what hotel you stay at some shops have guys come and load your bike on the back of a truck and you have a lost bike you have to pay for, so i was told when hiring just say you have not booked into a place yet ! well i have heard about this bike stealing mafia in Pattaya anyway. ( which is done by the company you have hired from by the way )
hi phil you take a risk when going on the jet skis, your liable if you injure anyone , they used to operate in a marked area buy swimmers were still coming close
a tourist got injured /killed and the guy on the ski was blamed ,but fled the country (if my memory serves me right) just be careful and don,t get on one if youve had a drink
ive read about the stealing of the hire bikes too ,it might be true
i took a photocopy of my p/p and tryed to hire a bike from the boys along the sea front , but none would hire me one without leaving my p/p
