Khao Lak Merlin qeusetion from newcomer

We will be going to Phuket early next April with several other families and we are considering staying part of our time at the Khao Lak Merlin. The adults in our group like to eat at different (and sometimes less expensive) restaurants than are usually offered in resorts, but our teenage boys never seem to interested! SO - can anyony tell me if there is a seletion of restaurants fairly close (preferably within walking distance) to the Khao Lak Merlin which we could go to while leaving the boys at the resort. I know we can get a ten minute taxi ride into town, but is there anything closer in the area. Thanks in advance for any replies and thanks also to fourm contributers. We have found all the information invaluable in our planning.

There is a small, but quite nice little restaurant on the north end of the beach - set back just a bit. Easy to see if you walk down the beach. About three weeks ago they were closed - but were clearly remodeling to reopen for the high season. SO - come April - should certainly be up.

Things change quickly here - and you might even find one or two more restaurants in the area by then.

The Merlin is about 10 minutes by taxi to the city centre of khao lak (if you can call it a city centre) . We stayed in the Merlin for 4 days - lovely hotel - but no other resturants within walking distance. The hotel overs a taxi service but not as cheap as normal Thai prices.

Thanks tedkarma and EwanC. We have decided to give the Khao Lak Merlin a go. The beach restaurant sounds interesting and we will probably go into Khao lak one or two evenings. I also got the KL Merlin to email their menu to me, just to check the prices wern%26#39;t too outrageous (we%26#39;re feeding four hungry kids) and it was quite reasonable.

A recent visitor to the Merlin reported on another forum:

';There%26#39;s Jo Seafood just down the beach (when you walk out on the beach turn right and just close to the end there%26#39;s Jo - you can%26#39;t miss it as there%26#39;s a bridge right at the beach). great food for very very low prices!! And there is a restaurant at the Baan Sunetra Hotel (just before Jo Seafood), but we%26#39;ve never been there.';

There are loads of restaurants in Khao Lak. All very good, all very reasonable - and child friendly.

Have a look here for some photos and maps.
