We are planning to go to Thailand in Feb next year %26amp; intend to visit the bridge on the river Kwai. But we are undecided about how to do this. Should we do a day trip from Bangkok or should we book a hotel in Kanchanburi %26amp; if we do is it easy enough to make your own arrangements when there? Any advice would be appreciated.
River kwai trip?My wife and I made a big mistake by only spending one day of our trip at the river Kwai.
Please take two days,
River kwai trip?Orientalcrafts, what would you do with your second day, if you had your time over?
Gioven the option of day trip or stay overnight I wouold always suggest the latter,
Leave BKK in the morning and check in.
long tail boat ride on River or Rafting on the river
there are two cemetries in Bangkok one in town and one on the bank of the river.
could stay on a flotel and float the night away.
Tiger Temple and hell fire pass.
Trip on a train over the bridge
IMO and thoughts of many people enough for 3 days 2 nights.
Hi Alan
The reason for the extra day would be to stop and take everything in when all the day tours had returned to Bangkok
The time spent on this trip is ,time, we would never have had
if it wasn%26#39;t for all those BRAVE PEOPLE
It is a very special place
Thank you, Orientalcrafts and Breconion.... much food for thought there. We have just five days, and so much to do.... aaaarrrgggghhh!
Dont forget the Weary Dunlop Museum and Hell Fire Pass, definately not to be missed and as you will be up that way its just a little but further. I have more info on these places with photos etc on link below.

While you are out that way your second day could be spent at Erawan Falls... it is meant to be gorgeous! We are doing 2 nights and 2 days at Kanchanaburi... we are using the first day to do the museums and bridge stuff... maybe the tiger temple... second day we are catching the local bus out to Erawan Falls.... Or we might hire a car and do it ourselves... I think a day trip out and back to BKK is a little rushed but it all depends on your agenda and timeframe!
We did the River Kwai as a day trip from Bangkok with Tour East, booked in advance through our travel agents in the UK but can be booked when you get there.
It is an early start ( 6.45am ) but we visted the Museum, had a ride on the River rafts, allowed plenty of free time to visit the bridge and surrounding shops, visited the cemetary ,had lunch and even went on a canoe through the floating market.
Had a train ride through the countryside ( fantasic ) and never during the day did we feel rushed.
It was the highlight of our holiday and put it all into perspective as my father in law was one of the unlucky souls that was on the Burma railway and spent most of the war in a prisioner of war camp.
This was our reason for going and it was very moving.
I did the River Kwai about 3 years ago as a day trip and although it was a long day managed to see everything, did the trainride up hellfire pass, visited the museum, cemetrys and walked across the bridge, a great day out. I think that we even called at places on the way there and back too. I booked the tour from a company on Koh san road, they were all offering very cheap trips , excellent value for money, have a great time.
