Hi
Just thought I%26#39;d share this info, and hopefully save some travellers a potentially risky situation.
I know that the vendors who hire motor bikes/scooters to tourists don%26#39;t necessarily require the hirer to have a license for the type of vehicle being hired, although they may ask them to take out insurance for damage to the bike/pay a refundable deposit.
What most people seem unaware of, though, is that the medical component of their travel insurance DOES NOT PROVIDE COVER FOR PERSONAL INJURY/HOSPITALISATION if the hirer doesn%26#39;t hold a valid/current drivers%26#39; license. (Presumably one which has been issued from their home country, and is therefore recognised as being legitimate by the insurance provider). It is no different in that regard to needing an international drivers%26#39; license when travelling overseas.
I just suggest everyone check the fine print in their insurance - better to be safe than sorry!

Scooter/motor bike hire %26amp; travel insurance
IF there is cover provided by travel insurance the size of the engine is normally limited to 124cc maximum. and as u say kathy, you won,t get any cover if u don,t have a legit, licence to ride the bike
