Day trip to Ayuthaya

Is it possible to do a day trip by boat to Ayuthaya? Has anyone travelled this way and do you recommend it? If so, how long does it take? Are there any other suggestions for the best way to see Ayuthaya? We are travelling to Bangkok in early January and only have 5 nights there so we want to make the most of each day.

We didn%26#39;t take the boat we hired a taxi for the day, there was 4 of us so it wasn%26#39;t expensive about $10aud each I think. It took about 6 hrs but we spent alot of time at the different ruins and we went to the Summer Palace which is great. I think next time we will take the boat as people that we meet said it was fantastic. You can also take the train and when there get a taxi to take you to different places.

Hope this helps. i also would like to know the cost and time of the boat trip and what happends after you get there. Do you have to get a taxi and do it yourself and then back to the boat. Are there set times ect.

Thanks for the info Paulinejoan. We are looking forward to seeing this. I thought it was only a 1/2 day tour but sounds like it is a full day. Will have to adjust out itinerary. If anyone out there can give us more info about the boat trip it would be greatly appreciated.
