The Oriental vs Peninsula Bangkok

Hello,

I hope someone can help me make a choice between the two hotels. From what I have heard, they are both top class, but which one is better for leisure, we also have a 2 year old toddler! Thanks!

The Oriental vs Peninsula Bangkok

Hi heron,

Difficult choice, indeed. My wife and I couldn%26#39;t make a definitive decision, so we split our recent Bangkok honeymoon between the Oriental and Peninsula. She is slightly partial to the O (her parents honeymooned at the hotel; perhaps one factor), and I, the Pen. (No special reason, other than to perhaps keep things interesting with the better half.) Together and separately, we have always had wonderful times at both properties for work/pleasure. Should you stay at ';just one,'; do explore the other for tea, drinks, and/or dining.

Another suggestion is to type ';macintosh oriental peninsula'; in the search function. You might get a few more ideas from others (and yours truly). Wherever you stay, have a fine time, riverside...

The Oriental vs Peninsula Bangkok

Peninsula is much newer/modern. oriental the classic older hotel. the peninsula has a clever layout for their pool. it%26#39;s a linear pool which cascades down several tiers. the oriental%26#39;s pool is the standard rectangle. the peninsula has more breathing room. oriental is on a smaller real estate footprint. peninsula gives you more interesting views from the rooms, as it is looking back toward the city center, whereas oriental looks away from the city center. peninsula is also a taller building so you can have potentially much more spectacular views from the higher rooms. it%26#39;s also fun to take the free and frequent river shuttle back and forth from the peninsula to tjhe other side of the river (to the bts station. for example). with a youngster, i would vote for the peninsula.

Ok, The Peninsula it is.

On our way back from Koh Hai, before flying out, we have a couple of days in Bangkok. I would like to spend the time shopping.

Question: How difficult would it be to travel to the shopping centres, eg, SiamParagon, or MBK, from the river, eg The Oriental?

If it is not too bad, then it would be perfect to stay at Peninsula upon arrival at BKK and then stay at The Oriental on the way back home.

Many thanks for all your kind advice.

It is easy to get to Paragon and MBK from both hotels. Take the hotelk shuttle boat to Saphan Taksin (pier) %26amp; get on Sky train from there - this takes you straight to Siam Square for Paragon or National Stadiun to go straight in to MBK. Both Shopping Centres link from Sky train by direct walk way.
