train from Bangkok to Ayuthaya, Can the sites done in a day?

Hi

Would like to take a day trip to Ayuthaya while staying in Bangkok, i understand that there is a train service to Ayuthaya. Is it possible to see the sites of the Anicent city on foot from the station in Ayuthaya?. Has anyone been to Ayuthaya, recommend any must be seen? places to eat ? Can the sites be seen in a day ?. Grateful for any advice. Thanks M

HI there are many ways to go, there is a river boat day cruise and site see.,there are bus tours,. mini van tours. there are many different wats and temples spread out and hard to find. I would not recommend walking What i did was to rent a car and driver for the day from my hotel and back total cost was 2000 baht. he knew where all the best sites where. he would drop us off at entrance then go wait in the shade. when we finished 1 site he would drive back up pick us up and off to another site.. I actually got burned out

too many sites ,but he still wanted to take us to more places
