Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit: - is it really that great?

Hi

I have looked at the feedback for Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit: here on TA and it looks great. All the reviews seems to give it a top score. Is it really that great? I%26#39;m planning to spend a night here on the way home from KL in the end of November and I look forward to that :-)

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit: - is it really that great?

Hi

Ive booked there for 6 nights in Nov. 20-26. I have spent the greater part of the last year looking and relooking and asking questions about the SGS. Obviously you have had a look at Tripadvisors reviews and as it states it has maintained the number one place on their web page since February as the Number 1 hotel in Bangkok. The personal reviews from travellers about the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit makes me realize that we have made the right decision.

We are staying in a Grande Delux Room which allows us the complimentary cocktails and canapes in the evenings and the buffet breakfasts in the morning. Overall this Hotel is another reason why I am so excited about going to Bangkok as I believe accommodation does play an important part in ones holiday....and its not that expensive.

We have also gone one step further for the SGS%26#39;s Return VIP Airport Transfer where they actually pick us up at the actual plane door and personally escort you through customs and immigration and also on the way home the same thing. This I think will be helpful as the new airport is so large. This little exercise will cost us $140AUD each but at least it will be quick and painless and a real time saver at the airport. Also the location is right on Sukhumvit Road in the middle of everything and the SGS have there own overhighway walkway to the Skytrain. Great for a one night stay where time is important.

I hope that the above may have been of some help.

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit: - is it really that great?

Greetings gardkarisen,

The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is sweet. Some of the most enjoyable moments of my occasionally wayword life have occurred whilst comfortably ensconced at that prime property. Normally not one to give out specific suite/room/floor numbers, but the 29th floor at that fine hotel has seen some good karma.

As mentioned earlier, the SGS does offer an airport gate ';meet and greet'; at BKK. Have done that routine in the past (at the old BKK) and it worked well. Of late, have not done this practice, with any of Bangkok%26#39;s hotels. Since its opening in late-September, I%26#39;ve cleared immigration at the new BKK on a few occasions, and never waited more than one minute. (Then again, I always make certain to have a seat near an exit.) Once through immigration, I meet up with the various hotel drivers for the journey to Bangkok. (By the way, recent rides to/from the Oriental, Peninsula, and Shangri-La have all been ~ 35 minutes; highly recommend late/early arrivals/departures.)

Should you stay at the SGS, strongly suggest partaking of evening drinks in the Library (';Living Room.';) Well-prepared libations, served by the most wonderful waitresses. (She no longer works at the hotel, but one waitress in particular reminded me so much of my all-time favourite communist/capitalist, the exquisite Chinese actress, Zhang Ziyi.)

Another suggestion for making your stay at the SGS as relaxing and joyous as possible: arranging for an in-room massage treatment. (A long-time personal preference is Angel Massage.)

Have a fine time, at a fine hotel, with some of Bangkok%26#39;s finest hotel employees,

macintosh (robert)

Yes it really is as great as it seems. We always stay here when in Bangkok, the service is fantastic, the pool just wonderful and it is in an excellent location. I love this hotel!

I hate to piour water on this love fest for the SGS, but this is simply a fine 4-5 star hotel...nothing more. not in the same leaugue as peninsula or oriental or 4 seasons or even sukothia. it is more in the same league as the jw marriott down the street. ive stgayed in almost all these hotels. theres nothing wrong with the SGSs, but let%26#39;s not get carried away here.
