Just a quick question.
May I know dows anyone know does the rooms in Silom Serene, do they have coffee/hot water making facilities?
Thanks.
Silom Serene
We stayed at Silom Serene a couple of years ago. We were in an Executive Room which had a %26#39;kitchenette%26#39; area, with coffee/tea making facilities, table %26amp; chairs etc, not sure about standard rooms though.
The location of this hotel is great.
Silom Serene
If I remember well, the standard rooms have coffee maker and a fridge also. Room and bathroom are very small and definitely needes an urgent renovation, specially the carpets and the tiles; we stayed in the 4th floor and the smell was HORRIBLE, unfortunately we had to stay because prepayed 5 days there. Lobby is a regular desk with two employees, besides is the elevator, behind a sofa, big window and the pool and in front of the desk is the restaurant where the breakfast is served.
Breakfast: Delicious
Staff: Just OK, not particulary helpful or kind
Building: Located in a side street in the middle of the block, you just get to the corner, cross the street and you%26#39;ll find the crowd of Patpong. Ah: When you pass to that corner I recommend you hold your breathing, the smell is just (again) HORRIBLE.
Staying in this hotel remaind me that is better spend a little more money, and know that at the end of your bussy day you%26#39;ll find a nice place to stay.
Agree with the above post. Silom Serene is less than average a 2 star hotel at most. The standard/dluxe rooms are in urgent need of attention. We stayed in September 2005 for two nights. It was just a stopover really so no drama but if I was staying there any longer I would not have been happy. I got stuck with a smokers room and am a staunch non smoker. Our toilet constantly blocked and the light in the bathroom did not work. We complained about both but niether was fixed during our stay. What this place has going for it is reasonably close to skytrain and great breakfast. I do not believe the location itself is worth staying there for as there was not much about apart from Patpong road. I believe there are much nicer places in better areas for a similar price or just a wee bit more. My advice fine for short stopover but not for longer time in Bangkok.
Oh dear. I am going to to stay there soon!!! This is very different from what I read in the forum.
Guess it is too late now. I just got to live with it for 3 nights. :s
now I feel bad. It is an okay place to put your head down. Lets face it when we are in Bangkok most of us are out and about all day anyway. I think things were busy there which is why we were stuck with a smokers room. We had a wander around the area in the day time and just decided for us next time we would stay in a different area. One positive for us is that it was half the price of the place we stayed at the year before. Breakfast is really nice and there is a nice coffee place on Silom road right out of Soi 3 about 50 metres down. There was always taxis outside in the area so we had no trouble finding one 15 minutes before we needed to leave for the airport. The sky train is not far and it the way to travel about as it is so cheap and efficient. The walk is about 5-10 minutes. There is the Patpong night market nearby although I think the Suam Night bazar is better laid out priced and larger. It is a small boutique hotel that needs updating in the room decor. Don%26#39;t worry about your stay if will be fine.
It%26#39;s ok. I would prefer to hear an honest answer rather than having surprises when I reach there. That is the purpose of this forum!
Thanks a lot and I will let you know the verdict when I am back! ^__^
I think you will be fairly happy with your stay, we stayed in an Executive nonsmoking room so perhaps that made the difference to our experience (it could also have changed in 2 years too!). However we have also stayed at the Novotel Siam Square and Pathumwan Princess and whilst these hotels are obviously much nicer (as they are more expensive and higher rated) we still prefer the Silom area. The main reason because there is more happening at night than around the Siam Sq area (which is great during the day), lots of great restaurants if you wander up the small soi%26#39;s off The Silom Road, Patpong close by for market shopping (although more expensive than elsewhere but the stalls on each side of Silom Rd are much cheaper than in Patpong itself). You can walk to Suan Lum but it is very quick to catch the underground which is located on the opposite side of the street to the skytrain, hop off at Lumphini station and it brings you directly to the night bazaar.
Like the previous poster said you dont spend much time in your hotel and as long as you are close to the skytrain you will be fine.
Enjoy!
We stayed at the Silom Serene for 2 nights just a few days ago. it was fine. The bathroom could do with a bit of a refurb, dated looking tiles, lightting not the best, but the room was fine. Not as spacious as places we%26#39;ve stayed in before, such as Sofitel Silom, but we did only pay GBP 33 a night and the Sofitel was going to be gbp50. And yes, it did have a kettle etc if you wanted a cup of tea in your room. Breakfast was fine, I wouldn%26#39;t rave about it like others have, we had much better in other hotels, but it filled a hole and set us up for the day. the pool is tiny, but we weren%26#39;t intending to use it anyway. The staff were fine with us.
It%26#39;s a busy little area, but then the whole of Bangkok is. We ate down a few alley ways and the food was nice. There are of course more upmarket places nearby, and the shopping at Patpong of course.
I wouldn%26#39;t probably stay at this hotel again, but for the price it was fine. We would probably pay a bit more to get something a bit more luxurious but it%26#39;s down to how long you want to spend in the room really.
Hope this helps you!
I%26#39;m back from BKK.
When we are at the airport, I keep telling my wife that the hotel I chose stinks, room is small and old, located in an alley and dirty bathtub. I hope to set her expectation right to avoid any major disappointment.
When we reach the hotel, as mentioned by other, the reception is only a desk. We requested a non-smoking room but there is none available. So the receptionist says she can only give us a smoking room. She also tell me something about I just cannot figure out her English.
We were of course disappointed and brace ourselve for the bad smell.
When we open the door, we were surprised. There is no smell. The room is decent for my standard. The bathtub is clean though the toilet tiles look old.
The bad thing is that it is located in the alley and seems like most taxi drivers do not know where is the hotel is. So everytime we take a taxi back, we always tell the driver to go to Silom Soi 3 and guide him from there.
Though the service is not that great, (once they make our room only in the afternoon), but overall the staff is pretty friendly.
Will consider to stay there again but not definite.
