How to get to Ma-ya Bay

How do you get to Ko Phi Phi Don from Bangkok? Then how to you get to Ma-ya Bay?

How to get to Ma-ya Bay

Dear Leia Lace,

from Bangkok you need to go to Phuket and then with the ferry to Phi PHi Island (round trip 1000 baht), To Ma-ya Bay it is 20 minutes with long tale boat and will coast you another 900 baht (for two people). I think there is no resort, only place to snorkell and going diving.

How to get to Ma-ya Bay

you can also get to it by speed boat tour from Krabi or Ao Nang same distance as Phuket. was just there 2 weeks ago. not the same as the movie too many tour boats but still a beautiful site.

Similana Resort or Khao Lak Merlin??

Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to Thailand in May 2007 and will be staying in Khao Lak for 3 nights but are having trouble deciding where to stay...we are thinking either the Similana resort or Khao Lak Merlin resort....Can anyone recoment one or the other? Or give any pointers? I did notice that the Similana resort was closed due damages caused, has this now re opened?

Similana Resort or Khao Lak Merlin??

If you go to the Phang Nga Forum you will find plenty of threads and posts about both resorts.

Also visit www.khaolaklovers.com for comprehensive information and photos on Khao Lak and the forum there for more questions and answers. This site and forum was developed by our much respected Local Expert for Phuket and Khao Lak, Tedkarma.

There is also an excellent German site and forum at www.mykhaolak.de with great photos of the area, resorts, restaurants, bars, tours etc..

The Similana is most definitely open and has been for some time. It is a very Thai resort, probably 3* with a good restaurant, flanked by two 5* resorts, the Sarojin on its left and on its right around the headland, the Le Meridien. There are three beach restaurants nearby and a couple on the highway but otherwise it is a restful retreat on the fabulous Pk Weeb beach. Khao Lak Town with plenty of bars, restaurants and shops is about 20 minutes by shuttle or taxi away.

The Merlin is on the other side of KL Town on the Phuket side and is nearer, about 10 minutes drive away. It also is traditional Thai but more 4* with better facilities, pools, grounds etc. A couple of restaurants nearby. Opposite and not far away is the Asia Safari and Elephant Village and the beach there is one of the better ones for snorkelling.

Lounge access

Does anyone know if economy class passengers can pay to use the executive lounges at Bangkok airport? Thanks.

Lounge access

Some airlines allow passengers with gold cards to use the VIP lounges even when they are flying in the cheap seats. Thai Air and China Airlines are two of them.

Check with your airline to see if you can pay for the lounge, don%26#39;t be surprised for some airlines the price may almost be as much as paying for an upgrade!

Lounge access

If you have a Diners Club card then there are lounges that you can access or if you have the priority pass card

try louis tavern, they charge you a smal amount, but provide you a business clas treatment for economy class bills.

don%26#39;t need a business class ticket for entrance.

Bangkok Air has their own waiting lounge at departure gates with internet and snacks for all their passengers . if flying domestic try them.

Thomson flights are direct to Phuket with a fuel stop at Abu Dhabi.

Sorry, I meant to say if you go through the phang Nga Forum as you already posted to it. :)

Hi stevegr

As arandora has said there is some great information about Khao Lak on the Websites mentioned, the only thing i can add is that i have just returned from my 1st visit and i cant wait to go back.

Thomsons have just started package holidays again to Thailand after pulling out several years ago. The flight is a direct flight to Phuket, with a fuel stop and flight crew change in Al Ain (UAE). The 1st part is about 8hrs long and the 2nd about 6hrs, with a scheduled stop of 1hr in between.

The flight is like any other long haul flight, you either want to be at your destination, or back home. We booked the premium seats, which is probably like most other Airlines economy seats, but i`m not complaining cos you get what you pay for. We flew Malaysian airlines in Feb to Kuala Lumpur and to be honest there was not much difference.

The rep in Khao Lak for Thomsons is a really nice guy called John, who can be contacted anytime, and can be regularly seen in Khao Lak town of an evening, when he`s not working of course.

I had no problems with Thomsons, i think they are trying really hard to get people to come back to this amazing part of Thailand.

  • Restaurant prices at Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort

It seems that people who have stayed at the Sheraton state that the restaurant prices are very expensive. Can anyone give me an example as my husband and I are looking to visit for our anniversary next October.

We%26#39;ve just been to the Pelangi Beach Resort in Langkawi and some reviews described there restaurant costs as expensive but we found them extremely reasonable.

If someone could give me an idea of how much (in 拢%26#39;s) an evening meal for 2 would cost.

Restaurant prices at Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort

I am staying here too and I contacted the hotel and got a menu sent to me - its not really expensive and if you have had enough of Thai food and want western choices it will probably be even more reasonable. Its typical hotel prices

Restaurant prices at Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort

Hi - returned from this hotel yesterday. The restaurant / drinks ARE expensive, but the hotel is fantastic and the setting (right on the beach etc) is superb.

One of the restaurants has nightly buffets at 1000 baht ( 拢14 ?) and there are one or two restaurants just opposite the hotel which are very cheap (although the area is still developing so don%26#39;t expect a %26#39;resort%26#39; as such).

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact - hope this helps !

    Shopping & Restaurants

Hi, Staying at the Pakasai Resort Krabi Feb 2007 - can anyone tell me the how far the shops are from this hotel, good food nearby and what the hotel is like?? Many thanks...

    Shopping %26amp; Restaurants

hi, At Pakasai Resort , 5-10 minutes walk to shopping center . I reccommend Aonang Villa Resort located very close by to shopping center and the beach. http://www.aonangvilla.com/location.htm

    Shopping %26amp; Restaurants

Hi - am staying at the Pakasai in 2 weeks time - love shopping and eating ( ! ) so will post full details on my return ! Hope this helps !

Thank you very much - would be great to read to your report on return from Krabi... Hope you have a great time!!!

    Cheers, Peter Chan

Just my opinion but I think these are two of the best hotels in their price range and 2 years ago I couldn%26#39;t fault Ao Nang Villa....but.....there was a change of management and their very high standards slipped a little. Meanwhile, I have noticed that Pakasai manages to keep their staff for a long time which is usually a good reflection on the hotel and its management!

    Thanks Egg Chaser...

how do you rate the position of the Pakasai Resort and the level on qualtiy?? thanks agian for all your help... Peter Chan

Hi Peter..Haven%26#39;t noseyed round the Pakasai, but the resort photo%26#39;s look nice.It%26#39;s only about 5 mins walk down to Ao Nang centre. There is a supermarket on the corner,as you turn left out of the hotel. There is also a circular thatched bar, just in the entrance to Pakasai, and we had a drink in there, when walking past cos it was happy hour,(every evening).

Just past the supermarket is an open style thai place. We didn%26#39;t eat there, but it was packed every night, with locals and tourists, and it was low season. As you walk towards the seafront, the Full Moon Bar is on the right, nice people, and cheap drinks.

There are plenty of choices to eat,and my fave place is K.R.Cuisine,on the seafront, small place, but excellent food. There is also an irish bar set back down an alley, further along the seafront (nr princeville resort)..and we had a good pub style meal in there.

If you turn right out of the hotel up the slight hill, about 3 mins walk is a good place for steak.It%26#39;s straight across from the Krabi Thai Village hotel.

In the centre set back down an alley, are some bars..we love the K.R.Bar (same management as cuisine). If you walk up to mac donalds,on the opposite side of the road is a lane with about 12 bars with livelier nightlife.Umberella bar was fun.You can jump in a motorbike taxi for 20 baht per person anywhere in Ao nang..great for worse for wear trips home : )..or when you can%26#39;t be bothered to walk.

    Hope this helps..

    Tiffin,

Thanks very much for the reply - it is very informative and much appreciated!

    Cheers Peter Chan

I%26#39;m staying at the Pakasai at teh beginning of December 06 for 5 nights. Can%26#39;t wait and will post ind epth report with pics when I get back! whoo hoo!!

Following on from Tiffin, two points. The mini mart on the corner has everything at about double the price of the 7/11 on the main street and the open air food centre just past it is not only the cheapest food in Ao Nang but also the best (hence it%26#39;s full of locals, both Thai and expat).

    Egg,

can you tell me where the open air food centre is in relation to the mini mart? Am i right that we%26#39;re talking about the mart on the corner of the shopping strip, near where you would turn up to the Thai Village Resort ect?

There used to be a bar on the right going up the same road...Mama%26#39;s i think...anyone know what happened to them?

    Thanks,

    Mal

    Ko Samui Visa for Americans

I am an American going to Ko SAmui for exactly 15 days in January. Do I need a visa?

    Ko Samui Visa for Americans

hi cheryldecaf--visitors are issued with a visa on arrival( a30 day visa)

    Ko Samui Visa for Americans

Just go directly to the immigration counter, do not be confused and go to the ';Visa on Arrival'; place. The ';Visa on Arrival'; is for a handful of countries that actually have to have a visa stamped in their passports before their citizens go through the immigration procedure. As an American passport holder you just go straight to the immigration counter. And you will be given 30 day stay permit.

Thanks very much! My husband is German, does he go to the same place?

Thanks very much! My husband is German, does he go to the same place?

    Yes,

both Germany and USA are on the list of countries who are eligible for a 30 stamp.. or visa waiver..
